SANTA ANA, CA (ANS) --
A 25-year-old Southern California broadcaster is hoping to spark “A Revolution
of the Mind” through his extraordinary new radio show of the same name.
And it all began in a local tattoo parlor where he went to record an interview.
Jason Vreeke, in an interview, began by telling about his early life “I grew up in a nominally Catholic home and got witnessed to by Christians all through high school and college. I basically scoffed at them thinking I was some kind of intellectual; too smart to believe in God. Of course now I know I'm a fool and grateful for His mercy!
“I played around with audio production my whole life. It began with audio cassette and then evolved into very early computer and MiniDisc recordings. I worked at a radio station for the first time when I was 20 years-old as a call screener and I was paid in 99 cent only Store coupons (five per week)!
“Then I talked the host of the show I worked for (Judd McIlvain, the Troubleshooter) into allowing me to function as a roving reporter so I could do a report (focusing on consumer information) on tattoos.

A revolutionized Jason Vreeke |
“I went to Goodfellas Tattoo & Body Piercing in Orange, California, and interviewed an artist named Turbo. In exchange for the radio exposure I received a free tattoo (I was also a tattoo enthusiast). When I went back to get the free tattoo, he shared with me about the Lord Jesus Christ. I didn't accept what he said immediately, but for the next week or so I was plagued with the thought that I was a sinner and that when I die I had to answer for my sins.
“Finally, I called upon the Lord and confessed my sins, repented, and accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior. That's when I began attending Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, California.”
He said he then had the opportunity to work with local KKLA radio personality, Warren Duffy by helping out with remote broadcasts for “Duffy and Company” on the station, but then Duffy retired.
Jason then said that after he became a Christian he had shelved the idea of being involved in radio. “I thought that God had only used it to save me. I entered School of Ministry (SOM) at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa just after Duffy retired and I thought I'd worked my last radio job. From then on I was to be a Bible teacher. But then my friend Anthony Ochoa told me of an opening at KWVE [the Calvary Chapel station] and it was in the same building as SOM. I thought it would be an easy ‘commute’ to work.
“So I began working at KWVE part-time while maintaining my day job at a Title company, but they laid me off that summer. So I went full-time at the station and began doing small amounts of production.
“In the next few years the Lord opened the doors for me to become the production director. This allowed many other opportunities to produce programs which included ‘Keeping it Simple; with Pastor Carlos Ayub of Calvary Chapel Central Santa Ana, ‘Living Water Radio’ with Pastor John Mendoza of Living Water Christian Fellowship in San Juan Capistrano, ‘Cross to Light’ with Brian McDaniel of CCCM Evangelism, 'Testify' with Bob Botsford of Horizon North County, and ‘Worship Generation’ with Pastor Joey Buran. And now the Lord is moving me to begin my own production company; "Revolution Media Productions," to specialize in bringing the Word of God to the world via audio media.
“Just a couple of months ago the Lord also gave me the go-ahead to work on ‘A Revolution of the Mind’ (AROTM). This is a project that I began working on in my early days of radio prior to getting saved. The themes were different; naturally, but the feel was the same. So now, after seeking the Lord concerning it for the past three years or so, He's finally given me the command to commence with production.”
He said that he had played around with the idea of ‘A Revolution of the Mind” for several years before he became a Christian. “I remembered how much I enjoyed doing the show before I got saved,” said Jason. “I felt it would be much better now that I had learned how to use good software and equipment. So I asked the Lord to show me if it was of His will for me to do it or if it was my flesh. I searched for all the old elements of the original show and could not find them.
“Then I went to a Wednesday night study where my SOM classmate had an opportunity to teach and he taught on 1 Samuel 30 when David came to Ziklag. All day I had been asking the Lord if it was His will for me to pursue the lost elements of the show and if I should produce the show anymore. I didn't want to do it if it was only my flesh talking. I didn't really pay too much attention to the study but I was praying to the Lord in my head asking Him if I should pursue what I had lost or if I should give up. Then I looked up and paid attention and the words that were being read were from verse 8 of 1 Samuel 30 – So David inquired of the LORD, saying "Shall I pursue this troop? Shall I overtake them?" And He answered him, "Pursue, for you shall surely overtake them and without fail recover all." So that caught my attention.
“Later that night, I went home and searched one more time. I decided that if I didn't find anything, I was going to give up. Then, with hardly any effort at all, I found everything in a folder buried deep in my hard drive. I also stumbled upon a CD with the two shows I had previously produced. So by then I was convinced that the Lord had wanted me to at least attempt to put the show back together with a Christian theme rather than the previous worldly theme.
“I prayed and prayed and prayed. The Lord kept giving me Scriptures telling me to wait. So I waited a few more years. It was always in the back of my head but nothing really played out until just a couple of months ago when I heard that KWVE was looking for something to segue between ‘Reaction Radio’ on Saturday nights to the regular KWVE lineup. I always thought that just after ‘Reaction Radio’ would be the best spot for the show. So I worked up a first episode called ‘Revolution’ as an intro to the series. I submitted it and I'm still waiting for approval...but the Lord showed me through many Scriptures such as Joel 2:25 concerning restoring the years the locust had eaten and Habakkuk 1:5 that He would do a work in my day that I would not believe though it were told to me.
“In my thoughts was AROTM and through this and others I can't remember now, I got the feeling that He wanted me to keep on producing and to do what I could even if it was not going to be on KWVE or any other radio station for that matter. That's when I thought of podcasting. It was this new thing and it didn't cost a dime. That's good because I didn't have a dime! So I've been producing one show per week ever since. I just put out episode 10 (May 12, 2006) and the Lord has added four radio stations and there's one more considering it. Still no KWVE, but that's in the hands of the LORD.
When asked how the name of the show came about, Jason explained, “The name came about before I was saved. Sadly, it is a reference to a line in a movie called ‘Vanilla Sky.’ The main character, David Aames, was captured in a dream, and different people in his dream would say the phrase, ‘This is a Revolution of the Mind.’ I really liked the whole idea of David being caught in a lucid dream and I'd always had a fascination with dreams. The name stuck in my early days of audio production.
“The show often featured dreams and still will because I tend to have very interesting dreams quite frequently. Now that I'm born again, the name still applies. It has taken up something of a different meaning in that when we become new creations in Christ our lives should be revolutionized. In Romans 12 Paul says that we are to be living sacrifices and that we are not to be conformed to this world but transformed by the renewing of our minds.
“I think in English we lose some of the power behind that word ‘renewing.’ The prior word, ‘transformed,’ is a hint at the true meaning behind the word ‘renewing.’ In Greek the idea is a complete change. The idea is that something is now brand new. A revolution is just that. It is a sudden, wide-reaching change in something. When he says that we are to be transformed by the renewing of our minds it is truly a complete, wide-reaching change. It is a revolution. So that's the main idea of the show's title.
“My hope is that the ideas and Scriptures presented in the show will result in a revolution of their minds and also that there will be a new way of thinking; that we will no longer look at the Christian life as the normal life on earth plus church. My hope is that revolutionary life for Christ will be sparked. This would look like the description of the apostles in Acts 17. They were accused of having turned their world upside down. So when our minds are revolutionized, we can then go into all the world preaching the Gospel and changing the world.
“My hope is that I and the listeners will engage in this revolutionary life for Christ by fervently being devoted to Christ, unashamedly sharing the Gospel with those who are perishing, and radical faith in the truth of God's word. My hope is that we'd all be sparked to live lives worthy of our calling that we may be found so doing at His return.”
The show is currently airing on KISL 88.7 FM in Avalon, Catalina Island, California on Thursday nights at 8:35, Hope FM 90.5 out of Marlton, New Jersey on Friday and Saturday Nights at midnight, The Voice 92.7 out of Ocean City, New Jersey Friday and Saturday Nights at midnight as well, and KIHL 103..3 out of Hilo, Hawaii at 8pm on Sundays.

By the way, Jason’s tattoo was on his left calf and featured Japanese-style bamboo with the Kanji characters for "Eternal Happiness." He noted this could only be achieved with Christ.
